Dear Diary,

These days we can find Bangi Kopitiam branches almost in every popular spots. How their business has mushroomed into a string of franchises. Needless to say, I’ve never been to any of it until recently.

My mother who is a clinical instructor (nursing teacher) came down from Kedah for her students’ convocation. Her college provided accommodation at a hotel in Nilai. It was a weekday that she was here, so we decided to treat her to a dinner. When we arrived at her hotel to pick her up, we saw that Bangi Kopitiam is just next to her hotel. To save time, all of us agreed to have dinner there. Lucky us!

We ordered Mee Hailam, Fried Rice with Chicken Chop, Dry Mee with Minced Chicken & Foo Chok and Roti Hailam Bakar (Butter) Brown Kaya. For beverages, we had Kopi O Ais, Kopi O “Ah Chong”, Bandung Cincau and Limau Suam. Among all the items that we ordered, only a few that we favored namely Mee Hailam, Fried Rice with Chicken Chop, Kopi O Ais and Bandung Cincau.

I love this restaurant’s ambiance. It’s very nostalgic. With many memorabilia being displayed, one would be transformed to the good old days where life is so much simpler. To sum up, there are tasty and also not so tasty items on Bangi Kopitiam’s menu. Patrons must choose wisely so that the foods suit their taste buds. Different people, different taste!

Mama: Abang, berapa biji pisang abang makan tadi?

Imran: Abang tak makan biji pisang.

Speechless! I was like @!%#...??? Then, I burst into a hearty laugh.

Scenario 2

Zarra is holding an ABC book in her hands when I heard,

“L A la, L A la … pisang. L A la, L A la … oren. LA la L A la … strawberry.”

Ohhh, she’s polishing up her spelling. I can’t help smiling ear to ear.

Slow Burn

Dear Diary,

Ford Cole is a big-city district attorney with his eye on the mayor's office and a big problem on his hands. One of his deputies, the beautiful assistant district attorney Nora Timmer, has just confessed to killing a man in what she claims was self-defense. A bad situation gets worse when an enigmatic stranger named Luther Pinks turns up at the police station to contradict Nora's story and paint a very different picture of Ford's talented colleague. With his career and perhaps his life on the line, Ford has a mere handful of hours to sort the truth from the lies in a saga involving Nora, a record store clerk, and a powerful gang lord.

Slow Burn was aired over Star Movies yesterday and I got a rare chance to sit and enjoy it. This movie, released in 2007, was directed by Wayne Beach. Among its casts are Ray Liotta (Ford Cole), Jolene Blalock (Nora Timmer), LL Cool J (Luther Pinks), Mekhi Phifer (Isaac Duparde) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Ty Trippin).

Befitting its title, Slow Burn is a bit slow in the beginning but the pace quickens as the puzzle unravels piece by piece. A film with full of twists and deceiving plots, you’ll be guessing as to who the real crook is and you’ll be in for a big surprise. Take note of details in all conversations so you can better grasp what this movie is all about.
