Dear Diary,

When I look at you, I cannot believe that you're already 9 years old. Has it been that long? You've grown son. In a couple of years, you'll be in your teen years. How I wish you can stay as a kid forever.

Among your siblings, you test my patience the most but you also teach me a lot. Being a mother to you, I learn to be a better person. A child is a huge responsibility from Allah. I always pray that I'm able to lead us both to Jannah.

If one day you read this post, I want you to know that no matter how hard or how usual I scold you and how long I nag you, it's all because I love you very much. I only want the best for you.

Whatever it is, I am always here for you in your happiest moments and darkest hours.

It's Irfan's Birthday Today

Dear Diary,

Today is Irfan’s birthday. He’s 3 years old. Let me tell you a bit about my youngest son…

He’s one cheeky boy. Among my three children, he is the only one who likes to tease people. He likes to smile but don’t fall for his smiles because he’s also very garang. He’s very close to me. Wherever I am, he’s there like a shadow; maybe because I raised him from baby without helper unlike his brother and sister.

He started talking much later than Imran and Zarra at around 2+ years old. At first, he talks gibberish. I’m the only one who understands his “language” though there are times I myself had no idea what he’s trying to say. Alhamdulillah, in the last two months his speech has become more comprehensible. His sentence construction is also better. Lately, he seems to talk non stop. This is very different from his younger self who was quieter.

He always offers to help me with chores and always like to participate in what his elder siblings are doing. One more thing, he’s very neat and quite particular in arranging things.

Happy 5th Birthday, Zarra!

Dear Diary,

Today, 26 March 2013 is my daughter’s 5^th birthday. Nur Zarra Zulaika which means cahaya kilauan yang menawan is truly a light that shines in our life. You’re such an easy child to raise, forever obedient and helpful. Sure, you have your tantrums but they are few and far in between. Even you’re not in your good mood, you’re easily coaxed to soothe your outburst.

Words that come out from your mouth belies your age. You always ask questions that amaze us. Go on dear, develop your critical thinking.

You’re a picky eater who prefers bread and cereals to rice. Nonetheless, you love nasi lemak but without all the condiments and side dishes, just enough with a sunny side up egg.

Happy birthday, my princess! May Allah grants all your wishes and may happiness be yours always. May you grow to be a solehah lady.

On my birthday last year, Hubby brought us to Secret Recipe for a quiet birthday dinner. It was just the 5 of us….enjoying each other’s company.

Nobody was around. There was no other customer besides us. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves. The kids had fun goofing around and talking to Secret Recipe’s staffs.

Melting Pot, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam, June 2012

Dear Diary,

If in 2011 we celebrated Hubby’s birthday at Melting Pot,Concorde Hotel KL, last year his friend treated us at Melting Pot, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam. Expecting a marvelous dinner experience like we enjoyed a year before, we left the hotel with a huge disappointment.

There was a big gap between Melting Pot Shah Alam's buffet spread with the one we savored in Melting Pot KL. It was not as impressive. Only a few items were delicious, others were such a letdown.

Not only us who were frustrated, but my brother’s lecturer (who celebrated his anniversary there) also shared the same thoughts with us regarding the foods there. Maybe it’s time the management do something to spice things up over at Melting Pot, Concorde Shah Alam.

Today, 24^th of November is my firstborn’s birthday.

Muhammad Syaheed Imran,

Eight years ago, your arrival was the most awaited event in the whole family. Not only you’re Abah and Mama’s firstborn but you’re also Tok and Tok Ma’s first grandchild. Everybody was looking forward to welcome you to the world.

Eight years later, you’ve grown to become an active and inquisitive child. You love playing games be it PSP or iPad. You have a very good memory. Janganlah berjanji dengan dia kalau tak boleh nak ditunai sebab dia ingat dan dia akan tuntut.

You like to ask challenging questions. Soalan yang mencabar minda, membuat Mama terkedu kadang tu. It’s okay dear because it reflects your thirst for knowledge. Learning is a lifelong process.

I believe you’re one bright boy because you easily grasp whatever we teach you. Bab menghafal memang cekap. Surah-surah dalam Muqaddam dah banyak dia hafal. But when it comes to study, you need a lot of push and encouragement. I guess because there’re so many distractions that shorten your attention span. Thus you tend to lose focus. I know when the time arrives you’ll rise to the occasion.

When Mama is sick, you’re always there for Mama. Tolong picit kepala, tolong urut. Your tears come easily too. Sometimes, you’re such a baby even though you’re the eldest. One skill that you’ve acquired and mastered is pijak belakang. Memang sedap dia pijak. Just the right pressure and weight.

Hah, one more thing I must mention here is that you’re very penakut. Even in broad daylight, you’re afraid. You’ll ask me or Zarra or even Irfan to keep you company. Malam tak yah cakaplah.

Whatever it is, Imran, today is your day. Enjoy it to the fullest. Happy 8^th birthday, Abang!

My wish for you as any mother’s wish in the world is for you to grow up as an obedient Muslim, a good son, a virtuous person and most importantly a happy man.

My Baby Boy is 2

Dear Diary,

In early 2010, Abah and Mama were pleasantly surprised to find out that we were pregnant with you. We're planning to have another child but we didn't expect to conceive you so fast. Anyway, praise to Allah for giving you in our lives.

Ever since you're born, you've been a darling to everyone. You're very close to Kakak that you imitate whatever she does. It's not a huge surprise then when we often see you playing masak-masak or Barbie, wearing tudung or telekung and wearing bracelets or cekak. On the other hand, you always find fault with Abang. Memang tak leh gi dengan Abang.

You're one cheeky (layaq burok orang Kedah kata) boy. You like to tease Abah and Mama. You can also be very "persistent" at times. Bila mai angin nak jugak-jugak dia, memang tension Mama. Tok said you have muka mayat which means face without expression (muka takde perasaan). Whatever it is, you're handsome to my eyes...always have been and always will.
