Foods at Jonker Street

Dear Diary,

(continuation from Jonker Street, Melaka, Feb 2012)
Besides merchandise, there are also foods and beverages being sold in Jonker Street. Some ordinary, some weird, some fascinating!

Durian Crispy Roll stall selling 3 types of kuih made with durian as main ingredient. There are durian ball, fried durian popia and durian crispy roll. All types priced at RM5 for every 3 pieces.

Of all 3, I found the fried durian popia as the tastiest!

Pagoda Potato stall selling potato chips on a stick. Though it's only potato but the presentation is appealing especially to children. Adding to that, there are various flavors to choose from original, black pepper, chili, cheese and mayonnaise. You can even mix flavors to suit your taste bud. Prices are RM3 per stick or RM5 for 2 sticks.

Believe me, there are more foods can be found in Jonker Street. There are also numerous restaurants and cafes serving variety of items on their menus. You wouldn't go home empty stomached!

Jonker Street, Melaka, Feb 2012

Dear Diary,

Bye bye Port Dickson! Till we meet again. As my eyes were getting droopy and I was starting to doze off to dreamland, my bit of consciousness noticed that Hubby turned south instead of exiting towards Klang Valley. Naturally, I was wide eyed instantly. Hubby surprised us by announcing that our day trip was far from over. In fact, we’re heading to Melaka to another popular tourist attraction – Jonker Street. Olalla, two places in one day trip!!

Jonker Street or Jalan Hang Jebat is according to Tourism Malaysia website:
A definite haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters.

I’ve been to that place once long time ago but the Jonker Street that we went that night was totally different. It’s more happening, colorful and vibrant. The street has been beautified without losing its charms. People from all walks of life local and foreign thronged the street that night.

With a night market concept, you can find and buy all sorts of things here. Stalls set up along the street selling artworks, souvenirs, clothing, antiques and toys among other things. There are also many shops selling more interesting and intriguing items.

Sunset View on Highway

Dear Diary,

It was late in the evening that we finally forced ourselves to pack and leave the beach. As we were cruising on the highway leaving Port Dickson behind, I managed to snap several pictures of the sunset. Here are the best few...

Good Times in Port Dickson

Dear Diary,

This is a continuation from my previous entry. If in previous post, I talked about the beach and its surroundings. This entry is specifically filled with our memories at the beach in Port Dickson.

Us posing before getting into the water…

Us having a good time in the water…

The kids playing in the sand…

This was Irfan’s first time at the beach. We bought him a pelampung. Surprisingly, he’s very relaxed when we put him in the water with his yellow fish buoy. He enjoyed himself thoroughly in the water. No tears of fear whatsoever, just laughter while he floated and splashed around.

Port Dickson, Feb 2012

Dear Diary,

What would a trip to Port Dickson be without a visit to the beach? In fact, the reason we went to PD in the first place was the beach. So, off we went to finding a picnic spot after savoring ayam panggang.

We finally found a perfect picnic spot a little bit further than Teluk Kemang. Mind you, there were many people around as it was public holiday but it was still bearable. There are shops and vendors selling all kinds of things from food and beverages to beach wears and souvenirs. The sea is not crystal clear or pristine but hey it’s as good as you can get in the West Coast AND more importantly within a short distance from Klang Valley. Water recreation facilities such as parachute, banana boat and jet ski are also available.

We “rented” a spot. For RM20, we got a huge umbrella, two plastic stools, two lounging chairs and a plastic table. You can use it as long as you want.

On the opposite side of our picnic spot, there are shower rooms and toilets. It is operated by a Chinese couple. My guess is the building with a restaurant in front and shower rooms & toilets at the side is their home. They diversify their business by providing a place to shower. How business minded they are in generating income. Shower room – RM1 per person. Toilet – RM0.50 per person. They also sell soaps, tissues and towel. The shower rooms are nothing fancy, just rows of concrete cubicles (much like a horse stable) with water pipes.
