Lion Dance in Subang Parade

Dear Diary,

Last year, I introduced lion dance to Zarra. She got to watch the Chinese traditional art for the first time when a troupe of lion dancers performed at our previous apartment which has majority Chinese residents. During Chinese New Year this year, she asked me whether there would be a lion dance performance at our new apartment. I told her there wouldn't be one because majority living here is Malay. She was a bit sad but consoled herself by watching any lion dance performance shown on television. Apparently, she enjoys watching the performance.

One evening a few days after Chinese New Year, we went to Subang Parade. Zarra was one lucky girl because there was a lion dance performance scheduled about 20 minutes after our arrival. Ten minutes before the show we took our place and didn’t move until the end. Even Irfan enjoyed watching the show, although he was a bit shocked of the loud music in the beginning.
Towards the end of the show, the dancers were handing out oranges to the audiences. Sadly to say, we didn’t get one but Zarra got to put her hand inside the lion’s mouth. She couldn’t stop talking about it for a few days. Well, never mind the nonstop talking; at least she got what she wished for.

Chinese New Year Decoration at Jusco Cheras Selatan (2012)

Dear Diary,

In previous entry, the kids' pictures dominate. This entry contains only pictures of Chinese New Year decorations at Jusco Cheras Selatan (^_^)

Jusco Cheras Selatan, Jan 2012

Dear Diary,

On Chinese New Year’s Eve, we went to Jusco Cheras Selatan. It turned out to be an unwise move. Nearly 90% of the shops were closed due to Chinese tradition of family dinner on the eve of their new year. To think the distance that we had to travel to get there for nothing was such a waste of time!

But since we were already there, though nothing much to do we still walk around the place. We came across Chinese New Year decorations put up by Jusco. It’s nothing extraordinary but simple and lovely.

Let the three darlings ran around and these were the outcomes of that day…

At least our trip was not in vain.

My Princess is 4

Dear Diary,

Today, my only daughter is 4 years old.

Happy birthday, Zarra!!!!

Nowadays, when she plays she likes to pretend to be someone else. Sometimes, she’s a ballerina. Sometimes, she’s a princess. Another time, she’s a superhero or a model.

She’s dependable, helpful and tolerable. She’s talkative but sometimes can be very cynical (mulut laser). Her outer looks soft but she is very determined once she sets her mind on something. She likes posing for the camera.

She can be heartless (keras) at times and kuat merajuk. She thinks she’s pretty.

She likes Kinder Joy & Big Apple. She loves books.

Nur Zarra Zulaika,

Whatever your strengths, whatever your weaknesses, Mama loves you still the same. I’m so grateful to Allah for having you in my life.

Since this is your day, only good things are wished for you sweetie. Be a puteri solehah. Be true to yourself. Dream the impossible and reach for the sky.

New Year 2012 Celebration

Dear Diary,

It has been years since the last time we celebrated the coming of a new year. When we lived in Bukit Bintang, we used to join in the crowd during any countdown (be it Merdeka Day or New Year Celebration) and watched the fireworks from the field where all the actions and happenings are. Maybe our house close proximity to the action center made us didn’t feel too weary to join the bash with hundreds others. Our house even was used as pit stop by family and relatives who wanted to rest before the countdown or fireworks show.

However, since having Zarra, we stopped this activity. Well, I did but Hubby still go with his friends instead. Imagine my surprise when Hubby said we would be having dinner outside on New Year’s Eve and if time and situation permit, we would also be watching fireworks. Choosing the venue proved to be a problem because when you have children many factors have to be considered. After much analyzing, we finally agreed upon Sunway Pyramid.

After Maghrib, we set out to Sunway Pyramid. The crowd was still bearable and parking was still relatively easy to find. We walked around the shopping complex for a while. After our feet started to ache, we looked for a place to have dinner. Tarbush was our choice. In the beginning, we went to there just for dinner. However, as we went inside we found out the place is a good spot to watch fireworks. At last, we decided to just stay there until midnight. Funny thing though, in order to wait for the fireworks our dinner stretched to 3 hours. We kept on ordering more and more food. Still, it was pleasant to just eat, talk and chill. What’s important, we’re in the company of our loved ones.

In the end, it proved to be a very wise decision because when the fireworks started we had a blast. We were practically under the firework’s sparkle!!

Federal Highway

Dear Diary,

I’m going to tell this story in my language – Bahasa Melayu.

“Cari Federal Highway. Stay je kat Federal Highway. Ikut arah ke Shah Alam. Selepas Tol Batu Tiga, ambik exit yang pertama, naik atas. Traffic light pertama, belok kanan. Traffic light kedua, straight. Traffic light ketiga, belok kiri. Dah boleh nampak apartment warna pink & purple, nama Brunsfield.”

Gigihlah mereka mencari Federal Highway tapi masih tak berjumpa. Setelah beberapa jam, mereka menelefon sekali lagi untuk mengesahkan petunjuk jalan yang diberi.

Makcik: “Ish, tak jumpa la Federal Highway. Lama dah dok pusing cari.”

Anak saudara: “La ni dok tang mana?”

Makcik: “Kat area PJ ni.”

Anak saudara: “Ok. PJ tang mana? Apa landmark dekat-dekat area tu?”

Si Makcik pun memberitahu satu persatu landmark yang dilepasi kereta mereka.

Anak saudara: “Laaaa, betoi dah tu. Federal Highway la tu. Straight lagi sampai Shah Alam.”

Makcik: “Tu la Makcik dok habaq kat Pakcik betoi dah jalan ni tapi Pakcik nak betengkaq kata salah pasai kat signboard tulis Lebuhraya Persekutuan. Dia tak jumpa lagi signboard tulis Federal Highway!!!”

Anak saudara (sambil menahan ketawa besar yang nak meledak keluar): “Lebuhraya Persekutuan tu Federal Highway la. Sama la tu!”

~~ Kisah benar yang berlaku kira-kira 8 tahun yang lepas. Dah terlalu biasa guna perkataan Federal Highway sampai tak terlintas nama apa yang tertera di signboard. ~~

Put The Glass Down

Dear Diary,

The story begins...

A professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students, "How much do you think this glass weighs?"
"50gm!" .. "100gm!" .. "125gm!" .. the students answered.

"I really don't know unless I weigh it," said the professor, "but my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?"
"Nothing," the students said.

"Ok. What would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?" the professor asked.
"Your arm would begin to ache," said one of the students.

"You're right. Now, what would happen if I held it for a day?"
"Your arm could go numb, you might have severe muscle stress & paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!" ventured another student and all the students laughed.

"Very good. But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?" asked the professor.
"No," was the answer.

"Then, what caused the arm ache and the muscle stress?"
The students were puzzled.

"What should I do now to come out of pain?" asked professor again.
"Put the glass down!" said one of the students.
"Exactly!" said the professor.

"Life's problems are something like this. Hold it for a few minutes in your head & they seem OK. Think of them for a long time & they begin to ache. Hold it even longer & they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything. It's important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, but EVEN MORE IMPORTANT is to PUT THEM DOWN at the end of every day before you go to sleep. That way, you're not stressed, you wake up every day fresh, strong and can handle any issue, any challenge that comes your way!"

"So, remember to PUT THE GLASS DOWN!"

Sushi King, Giant Kelana Jaya, Dec 2011

Dear Diary,

One evening, Hubby went for his usual swimming sessions in Kelana Jaya. He brought us along but dropped us off at Giant so that we wouldn’t be bored waiting for him in the car. At least we could window shop and look around until he was done.

Giant Kelana Jaya is quite vast with lots of shops selling variety of things. One of the tenants there is Sushi King. The lure to dine in was too great for me to just tapau as usual. After much persuasion, Hubby finally gave in and agreed to have dinner at Sushi King. My heart leapt with joy. No need to tapau. More selection too!

At last, I got to indulge in my newfound favorite in its own surroundings. I really gave in to the temptation. Don’t know when this kind of opportunity might come again.
